Daina Funk

Daina Funk, Director at Rooted Counselling, is a Professional Certified Counsellor through the Professional Association of Christian Counsellors and Psychotherapists. She is a graduate of Providence Theological Seminary with a Masters in Counselling in 2006. Daina was hired as a Lecturer of Counselling Psychology during the 2007-2011 semesters. In this role, Daina taught Counselling Practicum I-IV, Counselling Children and Adolescence, Counselling for Domestic Violence, and Psychopathology. Daina also has five years of experience supervising counselling students.

Daina works from a Person Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, and Family Systems approach with clients. She has been practicing since 2006 and has expertise in helping a wide range of life’s circumstances. Daina specializes in working with problems in living, depression, anxiety, trauma, family dynamics, and domestic violence.

Clients experience Daina as authentic, warm and interested in speaking truth and helping to identify truth(s) for each client. The hope is to establish a connection where exploration and honesty leads to understanding, challenge, change, hope and healing.

Tara Klassen

Tara Klassen holds an M.Ed. degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Manitoba, and has been a Canadian Certified Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) since 2014.

Tara provides individual counselling to adults and youth. She employs a variety of counselling methods depending on the needs, interests and personality of the client. Her approach is guided strongly by the Person-Centered theoretical approach to counselling, as well as Strengths-based, Emotion-focused, and solution-focused approaches. Tara works through a trauma-informed lens.

Her areas of specialty include finding hope in grief and loss, depression and anxiety, stress management, life transitions, self esteem, disordered eating and body image struggles, spirituality, and navigating relationships. She has a particular passion for helping women of all ages and from all walks of life overcome challenges and setbacks, and learning to trust their authentic inner voice and strength. Tara’s clients have experienced her to be warm, empathic, and nonjudgmental.

Karissa Martens

Karissa is a Canadian Certified Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.  She is a graduate of the Counselling and Dance/Movement Therapy Master’s program from Columbia College Chicago, and currently resides in Winnipeg Manitoba.  

Karissa works from a Person Centered and Strengths based approach, and her counselling style has been influenced by a variety of theoretical approaches including: Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, and others.  Karissa has worked with individuals from different cultures, spiritual backgrounds, age groups (Children, Adolescents, Adults), life situations, and presenting issues (Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, ODD). 

Karissa has availability at this time. Appointments with Karissa can be booked for Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as Wednesday days via email karissamartens@gmail.com. Karissa’s fee is payable by cash, cheque, and e-transfers.


Blake Williams

Blake is a psychotherapist and Canadian Certified Counsellor (C.C.C.) with many years of experience as a pastor and founder of a non-profit which helped those grappling with addiction. Listening and asking relevant, thoughtful questions are two of his greatest strengths in the counselling office. No matter the struggle, Blake journeys with his clients in a safe and caring manner.

His counselling is integrative and person-centred. He uses numerous approaches, including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Attachment, and Cognitive Behavioural. Some of Blake’s practice areas include anxiety and worry, depression, relationship conflicts, self-esteem, emotional regulation, guilt, and shame. Blake is only working with individuals at this time.

Tyler McAllister

Tyler is a Psychotherapist who holds a Master of Counselling degree. He endeavors to listen, empathize, and work with clients to establish and achieve goals that give them autonomy and a renewed sense of agency as they face their challenges, regardless of their background.

As a military veteran who has also worked in various professional fields such as project management and not-for-profit work, Tyler integrates his life experiences with his professional counselling training to be client centered and goal focused.

Some of Tyler’s areas of practice include: anxiety, depression, stress, life controlling behaviour, relationships, traumatic experiences, divorce/separation, adoption, early childhood experiences.

The treatment modalities that Tyler includes in practice are client focused and research based. Examples include principles from: Emotional Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Narrative Therapy. A collaborative process is essential as sessions are tailored to each individual’s needs and goals.

Tyler is taking individuals and couples at this time.

Danielle Grenier

Danielle holds a master’s in social work from the University of Waterloo and is registered with the Manitoba College of Social Workers. She has been working in community mental health for ten years and has undeniably found her passion in this field.

She is dedicated to accompanying clients on their journey by providing professional excellence in client-centered and evidence-based care. Pulling from cognitive behavioral models, mindfulness and crisis intervention, she has experience working with issues related to anxiety, depression, substance use, grief, stress, emotional regulation, self-harm and suicidality. Danielle values connection, dignity, and self-determination. With Danielle, Clients experience compassion and a calm presence when stormy moments are overwhelming, a safe space to recharge and heal as well as support to gain insight into emotional experiences and to build the skills needed in order to achieve their goals.

Garry Dyck

Garry is a Counselling Therapist working in our Steinbach office.  He has a Masters degree in Counselling from Providence Theological Seminary. He brings 13 years of experience in pastoral ministry and many years of experience in the retail business community. He has extensive experience working with issues of anxiety, depression, anger management, sex addiction, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, trauma and grief.  He is experienced providing relationship counselling working with both individuals and couples.

Garry provides a warm, welcoming and safe environment in which to explore problems in living.  He views each person as unique and worthy of respect and dignity.  He draws on a variety of counselling theories including CBT, Attachment, and Emotion based therapies.  Garry looks forward to walking with you on this journey of discovery and healing.

Megan Jane Funk

Megan holds a Masters in Counselling Degree from Providence Theological Seminary and holds the status of Certified Professional Counsellor with the Professional Association of Christian Counsellors & Psychotherapists.

Megan is experienced in working with people of all ages but is particularly passionate about working with children/youth and their parents. She offers both individual and parent-child dyadic therapy sessions both in person and via telecounselling. She primarily uses an approach combining Attachment and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that is integrated with Art and Play Therapy interventions. This is strength-based approach that involves exploring the concerns, identifying roots and patterns, and working toward change in a way that restores balance. Furthermore, this approach can address a range of concerns including (but not limited to) parent-child and sibling relational conflicts, anxiety, depression, problem solving, thought/feeling/behaviour patterns, and life/developmental transitions.
